Oh what a night!
Wow – what a fantastic night it was at the Tenfold Leeds Learning Disability Awards 2015! The Queens Ballroom was packed and glowing in pink light with tables set for dinner as over 300 people attended this fabulous occasion.
Guests were greeted with drinks and offered delicious canapés, generously provided by Tenfold member Foodworks. There was also the opportunity to get snapped in the Pop-Up Booth with lots of fancy dress available, making the photos great fun! You can see for yourself on the Leeds Learning Disability Week Facebook page.
Dinner was served and the wine flowed as the room filled with anticipation and excitement for the awards presentation. Awards host Ian Donaghy (Big Ian) did an amazing job, getting the energy and excitement levels to go through the roof. If only we could have bottled the atmosphere as it was pure joy! Everyone was an equal, enjoying and celebrating the occasion and being part of something very special.
The winners’ trophies were handed out as the night by: Tenfold; the Awards sponsors, Morrish Solicitors, Morrison’s, White Rose Shopping Centre and Trinity Leeds; as well as Olympic hopeful Tom Bosworth; the Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson; Hilary Benn MP; Partnership Board Co-Chair, Susan Hanley and stars from Emmerdale.
The surprised winners made some brilliant speeches, and were impressive in the words they used to give thanks – a sure sign that confidence of the learning disability community is at an all time high!
Congratulations go to all the nominees and to the winners on the night. As well as the nominated Awards two special awards were given out on to mark the contributions of two people who have given so much.
A Lasting Legacy Award was presented in memory of Julia Piggott, founder of Pyramid of Arts, and a Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Frances Jones who established SLATE and has recently retired.
The winners on the night were:
- Tenfold Member of the Year: People Matters
- Making a Difference: Luv 2 Meet U (sponsored by Morrison’s)
- Volunteer of the Year
Highly Commended: Ben Whitehouse, Foodworks
Winner: Paul Hutchinson, Pyramid of Arts - Going The Extra Mile: Mavis West, Off by Heart Choir (sponsored by Yorkshire Housing)
- Employee of the Year: Carol Ann Reed, The Bridge, Health for All (sponsored by Morrish Solicitors)
- Team of the Year: The Get Me Better Champions, Leeds Teaching Hospitals (sponsored by White Rose Shopping Centre & Trinity Leeds)
- Outstanding Contribution: John Burley & the Easy on the i team, Leeds & York Partnership Foundation Trust
(For photos of all the winners see the Awards pages.)
Following the presentation of the Awards the party got started when HUGE took to the stage with Big Ian on vocals joined by 9 band members – the dance floor was filled!
Tenfold is thrilled with the support we have received for the Leeds Learning Disability Awards 2015 and really delighted to hear how much people enjoyed the evening. Thank you to everyone who supported us. We plan to do it all again in 2017 – watch this space!
