Big Ian promises you a very Big Night!

We are delighted to announce that the host for the Tenfold Leeds Learning Disability Awards 2015 is Ian Donaghy.  Although you may not know Ian now, we can guarantee that by the end of the night you will be singing ‘Big Ian’s’ praises!

Ian’s infectious enthusiasm and humorous approach have made him a popular conference and motivational speaker all over the UK.  During a 20 year career teaching young people with learning difficulties, the Home Office asked Ian to set up in-school inclusion units for vulnerable students, focusing on the individual, and celebrating what they can do to raise their aspirations. Ian then took this ‘focus on the individual’ approach into the world of care, and quickly used his innovative teaching & learning styles to win Care Trainer of the Year at the British Care Awards in 2011.

Ian delivers bespoke learning through his business Training for Carers for clients as diverse as Yorkshire Ambulance Service, local authorities, large care providers, the NHS and village communities to help them become more dementia friendly. His book “Dear Dementia: The Laughter and the Tears” was published in 2014 and in under a year has reached 25 countries and is included on the Alzheimer’s Society Reading Well prescribed list of 25 books for dementia care. Angela Rippon OBE describes it as “An inspirational little book…A work of real love”.

Whilst doing all of the above, Ian formed the band HUGE in 1990. Since then the mighty nine-piece have sold out the Grand Opera House in York an amazing 30 times and have played with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Lulu & James Blunt.  Their clients include other big names such as Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Tim Rice and Peter Kay, who have all booked HUGE to perform at their parties, and the band also played for the Leeds Rhinos after winning the Challenge Cup.

Prepare to be entertained…Big Ian promises you a very Big Night!
